"The Three amigos"

Since the day we picked up Miss Jennet, Rosie and Gracie, we have referred to them as “The Three Amigos”! Although “Amigas” would be the correct term, it has been what it is and will probably never change. All three were an owner surrender to us after a background review, resume, and long phone conversations… and all for an understandable reason. The surrender was actually by the daughter of the owner, as her mother had become aged and had entered a care facility. The daughter stated that the Three were her mom’s babies and it was going to be the last, and most difficult bit of mom’s life to have to part with. After our phone interview, we were awarded the Three Amigos as their new caregivers! With a road trip in order, we arrived at their long-time home to be greeted by Miss Jennet, Rosie and Gracie, all at the fence by the driveway giving us an extremely loud, but warm welcome! Miss Jennet is the leader, Rosie has a bray that can overpower almost anything, and Gracie is the epitome of the gentle soul that wants nothing more than to be the silent one that gets loved on! Each of the Amigos is around 20 years old. However, due to their longtime nutrition of pasture grass and “loving treats”, the Three Amigos are all in an obese state. This is a serious health problem for donkeys, as they cannot readily lose the fat pockets and crested neck that the gained weight produces. The seriously sad fact is that obesity will shorten their lifespan by as much as 50%. The Three Amigos have been with us for 4 years, and because their weight is considered a medical issue, they will remain with us for the rest of their lives.

If you visit T.E.X.A.S. Rescue, you will leave with the Three Amigos forever in your heart!
