Donkey Therapy Park

T.E.X.A.S. Rescue is extremely proud of our recently donated Donkey Therapy Park! This was a class project from Leadership Granbury to help us with our support of Veterans, children, first responders, autism, reading and art programs, or anyone needing time to heal. And, we use it a lot!

A private and secure area where one can sit under the shaders and observe the donkeys, or reach over the fence to pet them, depending on your comfort level. Or… we bring a donkey or two into the park for an up close and personal encounter. The donkeys encourage petting, hugging and conversation with all who visit. Folks who have had reservations about opening up to a therapist find it very easy to open up to our Therapy Donkeys. The major factor here is that there is no judgement from the donkeys, no matter what you tell them (although, they do like to be told that they look great today and that you love them).

We offer visits from schools, retirement facilities, special needs programs, and so much more! Donkeys are referred to as 500 pound puppy dogs, and for good reason. Their intelligence level is equivalent to that of dogs and dolphins! They have an innate sense of knowing who is having a bad day and their natural ability is to comfort you! You have to personally experience these animals to understand why they are praised by human therapists for what they can accomplish with those that may be struggling.
